The Best Of Scottish Comedy (The Stand Comedy Club)

By | Published on Sunday 12 August 2012

This was certainly a thoroughly Scottish night; the word cunt was the most commonly reoccurring theme throughout, with all four comedians in the mood to juggle with the casual way this has worked its way into Scottish dialect. At times this was referred to in good humour, with ironic affection for national vernacular. At others it was a replacement for substance, and one tasteless joke about the Polish caused some offence. There were lot of strong jokes however, especially from the headline act, who elicited many roars from the crowd. Susan Boyle, Glasgow and the weather were discussed, and for foreign viewers, this probably shed some light on the pessimistic attitude so prevalent in Scottish humour. Unfortunately, Scottish comedy has a lot more to offer than this particular showcase delivered.

The Stand Comedy Club, 4-26 Aug, 9.45pm.
