Tennyson Hanbury’s Condensed Cabaret (Tennyson Hanbury’s Condensed Cabaret / PBH’S Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Attention! Lovers of card tricks and intimate magic – you may enjoy this show. Beware! Lovers of intellectual and observational comedy – you may struggle to wrap your head round Tennyson Hanbury’s brand of cabaret, which falls somewhere between Jerry Sadowitz and Tommy Cooper. For many of you that last line may be the one to have earned your attention, but in reality Hanbury’s performance makes him feel like an ersatz Sadowitz. Armed with some genuinely impressive micro magic that suits the show’s tiny venue, it’s a shame that “The Man Who Knows” fails to understand that his jokes are unashamedly puerile and fundamentally unfunny. You’ll probably wish this cabaret had involved a bit more magic and a bit less comedy.

Belushi’s, 4-25 Aug, 2.30pm.
