Straight-To-DVD (Thom Tuck)
By Hannah Sweetnam | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
Think you’re a Disney fan? Bet you haven’t seen all 54 ‘Straight-To-DVDs’. Thom has. Revisiting last year’s material in an unscheduled yet exquisite Free Fringe event, Tuck draws comparisons between his love life and the plots of forgotten sequels, prequels and even “midquel” films, from ‘Simba’s Pride’ to ‘Return to the Sea’. Hilariously deprecating, he dissected each “STDVD” with panache, becoming more manic as the show progressed, reflecting his watching experiences, “so that you don’t have to”. Although the show could have done with an update from last year, this is a minor complaint. Ending in a sing-a-long of ‘Part of Your World’, this was a hidden gem in a cave of wonders.
Cabaret Voltaire, 4-25 Aug (not 17), 10.05pm.
