Steve Shanyaski’s Life-Survival Bible (Lee Martin for Gag Reflex Management)
By Sarah Macartney | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Steve Shanyaski has structured his show as a survival guide to making it in the modern world, divided into the four most important aspects of current life: Shelter, Provisions, Communication and Drinking. Although this structure isn’t vitally important to this brilliant, confident comedy, it does let Shanyaski thunder quickly through his jokes and observations on the internet and social conventions and his relationship. Seeming adrenaline-fuelled for his last night, he played effortlessly and confidently with the crowd, mocking them lightly and masterfully (perhaps less cruelly than his girlfriend, the subject of much of his comedy). He complained that critics never came during his full audiences; well, Steve, I was there, and lapped it up as much as the rest of the crowd.
Pleasance Courtyard, 2-26 Aug, 11.00pm.
