Sean Hughes – Life Becomes Noises (Bound & Gagged Comedy by arrangement with Old Man Management)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

Sean Hughes masters the art of making death funny. Making it seem like a doddle, he respectfully and hilariously mocks the loss of his father. Recalling events from his childhood to his last goodbyes, Hughes tells anecdotal jokes about the man he wanted so badly to make proud. He had some audience members on the brink of tears, yet miraculously pulled them back from the edge with unexpected merriment. The use of props, from a hospital bed to a horse puppet, and costume changes from a jockey to PJs, made the ordeal all the more realistic and gave an emotional undertone to Hughes’ highly amusing set. The set focused on the need to make his father proud, and it certainly would.

Pleasance Courtyard, 1-27 Aug (not 14), 5.30pm.
