Rosie Thorn And The Patsy Cornish Saga (Red Dress Company)
By Andrew Bell | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Sociopathic socialite Rosie Thorn and her accordion-playing manservant, Mr Gardener, find their home under threat from the con artist and chav, Patsy Cornish. A mix of comic song and storytelling, this is hardly a laugh-a-minute show; although the concept is good, the jokes leave a lot to be desired – relying heavily on the apparently amusing dual meaning to the word pussy – and the songs are at best cleverly worked, but never actually that funny. Furthermore, while Rosie Thorn is an amusing character, Patsy Cornish doesn’t feel very original. On the plus side, the accordion playing is quite good, but this show is never going to win the blue ribbon at the Women’s Institute.
