Phil O’Shea (Phil O’Shea / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Phil O’Shea’s show is a trip, if nothing else. His ramblings wander from the topic of illustrated animals, to surreal artists, stopping off at the beach (with the Beach Boys, of course) via the reflexologist… but sadly, none of the stops are all that memorable. He makes a few wry observations, and makes a stab at dropping in some philosophy – mentioning John Stuart Mill’s rhetoric about Socrates – but then trails off into merging the pig and said Socrates literally. Any further attempts at profundity, such as the nature of eggs, are as deep as a puddle, unfortunately. Throughout the hour’s journey, all is comfortably benign and no offence is caused or directed at anyone or anything really. Disappointingly, there was nothing to write home about.

Belushi’s, 4-25 Aug, 3.40pm.
