Phil Nichol Rants! (Phil Nichol / The Assembly Rooms)

I went into this gig with a storming headache and, since ranting is generally quite a shouty affair, I assumed this wasn’t going to end well. But they say laughter is the best medicine and Nichol definitely cured my pain. Within minutes of sitting down (and before the show even really began) the audience found themselves confronted by this comedic Canadian, as he introduced the show haphazardly and hilariously. Rants about everything from crisps to women informed his material, while his stagecraft consisted of some rather violent arm movements, but all of it comes together perfectly to form one hour of laughter. While some jokes were lost thanks to his super-fast delivery, altogether it’s still a cracker.
