Peter Piper – The Man Behind The Legend (Sam Quinn / PBH’s Free Fringe)

At least this begins well. A comic start involving mime and a hand-held metal detector is well received, and for a few promising moments early on it seems as though this show aims to make a statement about multinational fruit companies and GM foods. Too soon, however, it descends into a series of rambling sketches and random nonsense. There appears to be no target audience in mind; jokes switch from the simple and childish to the extensively long-winded with no clear links between them. Any material that could be used to build and sustain a consistent theme or argument is lost in a mishmash of seemingly unrelated sketches, resulting in a patchy show in which the audience is left disorientated.
