Paul Foot – Kenny Larch Is Dead (IMWP)
By Olivia Sleet | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
For anyone familiar with Paul Foot’s stylised comedy, this show is classically, nonsensically bizarre. For those not familiar, this show is a strange, relentless, verbal assault on the audience. Foot hurtles around the stage – looking not at all dissimilar to Mick Jagger – screaming down the microphone and telling offbeat anecdotal jokes with a deliberate absence of punchline. I find myself laughing despite nothing actually being funny apart from Foot’s unhinged behaviour; it is as if someone has shot the school nerd with medical strength adrenalin and let him run riot. And riot he does, before completely losing it with a five minute finale of him saying entirely meaningless phrases. It can be safely said, there is nothing else like this.
Underbelly Cowgate, 2-26 Aug (not 15), 7.30pm.
