Nick Hayman – Middle Aged, Useless And Talented

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Nick Hayman advertises this show as a musical comedy and stand-up act, but most of his time is spent playing (admittedly beautiful) renditions of various classical songs on his keyboard while delivering a variety of jokes that sound as though they’ve came out of this year’s Christmas crackers. Though his original songs are good, there isn’t a humorous aspect to them and there is little stand-up. Ultimately the show becomes cringe-worthy and I found myself squirming in my seat, first as Hayman repeatedly tried to hang up a plastic skeleton – which kept falling off a microphone stand – until he gave up on the joke; and then further when he forgot his prepared jokes and stood on the stage completely blank-faced.

Laughing Horse @ The Free Sisters, 3-26 Aug (not 4, 11, 18, 25), 12.15pm.
