Munfred Bernstein’s Cabinet Of Wonder (Jamie Bowen)

By | Published on Saturday 18 August 2012

Jamie Bowen has created something complicated and strangely endearing in the form of Munfred Burnstein, a man who has travelled the world with his “Cabinet of Wonder”. An hour-long show is not ample time for an audience to fully engage with an unfamiliar character, but Bowen’s energetic and extremely committed performance make sure that the crowd’s attention does not waver. Don’t expect belly laughs, but Bowen’s off the wall brand of character comedy is oddly compelling. It is not just his skill in staying in character that is so enjoyable, but his songs in particular are excellent. If nothing else, his musical interludes prove that the ukulele can indeed be used to play the blues.
