Mike Sheer In Undergod – Free (Mike Sheer)
By Holly Close | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Mixing dick jokes with musings about God, Buddhism and Islam, Canadian comedian Mike Sheer tackles a range of issues with engaging irreverence. Sheer manages to find a good balance between appreciating why people are religious and being incredulous about the way religion can manifest itself in daily life. His rants – sometimes interesting, often graphic, occasionally surreal – don’t always hit the mark, and the punchiness of his set may have been dampened by the small size of the audience, though this did at least lead to some good riffing about performing to an audience composed predominately of chairs. It’s a likeable show and Sheer is a fairly endearing performer, though there are very few moments of out-and-out hilarity.
