Michael Downey – Standing Up Again (Michael Downey / EdCom Productions)
By Lauren Simpson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
In 2001 Michael Downey was in a car crash that changed his life, and now he’s back with his first Fringe show in over ten years. Downey documents his life from the car crash to the present for his small but engaged audience, playing clips of his stand-up prior to the accident and giving a sincere and genuine insight into his life. He generates a few laughs from the crowd by making fun of his driving and how he got started in comedy; however, the show does make for a morbid affair – it’s tough hearing about the struggles he’s faced, and seems more like a theatre production than comedy. It is clear that Downey is funny, he just needs more time reclaim his form.
