Matthew Highton’s End Of The Road (PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

Performing a combination of stand-up and storytelling, Matthew Highton seems to thrive off the awkwardness of the audience, which he produces as a result of his surreal, abstract jokes. Somehow though, he pulls it off, even if sometimes it really seems as if it is his eccentricity, rather than a tremendous amount of wit, which is raising laughs. That said, it’s also clearly a very well-thought out show, with references to all sorts of strange music, programmes and famous people which I think Highton purposefully took a risk in including, because not everyone always got them. There is also an overlying story with a twist in the end, giving the show more of an assured, professional feel.
