Mark Nelson – Under The Radar (MZA and Amity Productions)

With no narrative or theme, Under The Radar is simply about Mark Nelson’s life as a 31-year-old married man living in Glasgow. Though it’s mixed with some funny material about British Military Fitness classes and a well-timed discussion about baby names, most of Nelson’s set is made up of blokey stories, many revolving about sex, drinking and weeing on dwarves. There are some nicely delivered jokes, but the show’s not particularly innovative and his audience banter is somewhat confrontational. It felt like sitting in a pub with a group of men and listening to that one guy that all the lads think is hilarious – great if you’re in on the joke, but it left me feeling cold.
