Making Life Taste Funnier (Graham Oakes and Sean Turner / Laughing Horse Free Festival)
By Andrew Bell | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Watching one comedian get brutally upstaged by an eleven-year old is embarrassingly amusing, watching two get floored is just embarrassing. Posh Geordie Graham Oakes didn’t see it coming but his partner, proper Geordie Sean Turner, should have, and neither had the chutzpah to slap the young troublemaker down. However, even without the pre-pubescent heckling, this was never going to be a winning show. Flabby anecdotes with weak pay-offs, over-done gimmicks and comics who have to check their notes do not make for a raucous hour. Neither Oakes nor Turner were terrible, but their material was too short on punchlines to keep us laughing. Oakes joked that their heckler got the biggest laugh. Sadly, he was right.
