Luke Toulson – Luke Who’s Talking (Corrie McGuire for Objective Talent)
By Claire Hoyda | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Toulson says he is not very good at beginnings but I think he lies. A beginning about beginnings opens proceedings on a good note, despite the constant line of latecomers, though he uses this to his gain with some spot-on improv. With the crowd settled, he makes his way through material with ease and maintains a constant yet gentle flow of laughter. Taking comedy from the darker regions of life (nothing morbid or shocking), he gives us a good idea of the man and the comic. The structure of his set seemed well thought out but looked disturbed on this particular night as he ‘ummed’ his way through some jokes and anecdotes. Nevertheless it was enjoyable.
