Kevin Dewsbury – In…Sane (Kevin Dewsbury / Laughing Horse Free Festival)
By Sarah Macartney | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Kevin Dewsbury opens his obviously cathartic hour of stand-up with a song including the line ”It has often been said, I’d be better off dead”, and goes on relate the experience of his nervous breakdown in 2010, and what he discovered about himself. While this introduction made me squirm in my seat a bit – mental illness doesn’t seem like the funniest of topics – the deadpan and likeable Dewsbury pulls it off with style and sincerity. It was very interesting to hear of his experiences first-hand, although it sometimes felt as though this show was more for him than the audience. I hope that the now-recovered Dewsbury returns to Edinburgh with more of his observational style.
