Jonny And The Baptists
By Susan Ford | Published on Wednesday 22 August 2012
Jonny Donohue is perhaps one of the sweatiest men in comedy, and all the sexier for it. The two Baptists that join him to create the comedy-blues band are equally as beautiful, but it’s our main man Jonny who’s got all the jokes. Very posh and clearly well-educated, Jonny composes cleverly-written anecdotes in the form of songs. The sweat literally flying off him is a little off-putting, as is the drip from the ceiling, but the originality in performance is enough to overcome this. Jonny and the Baptists prove that music and comedy can be combined, pushing any stereotypes of ”good musician – bad comedian” (or vice versa) right off the stage.
Underbelly Cowgate, 2-26 Aug (not 15), 9.10pm.
