Jamie Demetriou’s People Day (and Special Guests) (Jamie Demetriou / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Jo Barrow | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
Jamie Demetriou presents two men from polar ends of the confidence spectrum in this character-led stand-up. The first is a bumbling emcee whose set is a shambles of (intentionally) poorly written jokes delivered badly. The second is a smooth-talking Ron Burgundy type, who generally lounges around the stage being louche until he veers off course towards a questionable foray into party games with a member of the audience. If it seems bizarre, it’s probably because it is. Despite such obvious flaws, each character brought regular laughs from the audience. Jamie Demetriou shows promise, but his show lacks polish, or indeed, a point. As he said at the end, it’s a work-in-progress.
