Greg Proops (Bound And Gagged Comedy by arrangement with Talented Artists Ltd)
By Mara Docherty | Published on Friday 24 August 2012
Frenetic San Franciscan wordsmith Greg Proops provides bang for your buck in this quick-witted show. Starting off with a critique of the Olympic ceremony and team GB’s tracksuits he follows it up with with observations on the generational gap (“children have apps for predators now”), white people, Ireland and American politicians. The myriad of witty adjectives are never-ending; at times I was laughing at a single word rather than the joke in its entirety and like inconclusive fireworks there’s always one waiting to go off. Proops, however, may want to hire a UK editor, as the only distraction from his brilliance was the American words and cultural references, which occasionally alienated the Edinburgh audience. Do you know what a “goober” is?
