Gadd, Kirk And Winning – Well, This Is Awkward… (Richard Gadd, James Kirk, And Matt Winning)
By Jo Barrow | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Confidently working an awkward atmosphere, these three comics always stay on the side of funny whilst walking through the territory of failed lines and deconstructive humour. In this deceptively simple show, you can see the joy Matt Winning gets from undermining conventional comedy by announcing his callbacks and openly repeating jokes. Whilst more mainstream in content, James Kirk’s self-deprecating set deserves recognition, if for nothing more than drawing the audience into singing the theme from ‘Shaft’. Satirising the standard tropes of the offensive one-liner, comedian Richard Gadd had the audience howling with his sharp-as-spoons banter section. A closing performance by Vocal Point, Scotland’s premier hip-hop group, will leave you with a giant grin. Watch these boys, they’re going places.
