Free Footlights (Cambridge Footlights / PBH’s Free Fringe)

In addition to their regular show, the Footlights are offering their sparkling comedy for free, in a bunker-esque George Street basement. The line-up changes daily, which may mean that Tuesday’s work of searing brilliance becomes something rather more mediocre on Wednesday, but the lack of a ticket price makes this worth the risk. All performers were on excellent form today – particular highlights included I Am, I Am, a guitar duo with an enjoyably filthy song dedicated to the London Underground, and a ”children’s author”, who has written a script for Disney (cruelly rejected) in which a father explains the need for Granny’s important trip to Switzerland. Get there early however – that basement sure fills up fast.
