Fark (Madeleine Culp / Free Festival)
By Hannah Sweetnam | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
‘Fark’ was one of the most surreal half hours of my existence. This bizarre comedian began the show amongst the audience, playing an amusing audio clip of what she imagined them to be saying as she prepared to mount the stage. Mysterious panpipes signified flashbacks in sketch form, recreating scenes from her scented-candle making days, during which period the candles smelt of “goats cheese” and “freshly washed armpit”. Weird enough for you? Well it didn’t stop there! As she revisited her yoghurt advertising career and drew pictures of herself defecating on stage, it was hard to be certain of whether her slightly alarming performance was all part of an on stage persona. However, if you are into surrealist comedy, then ‘Fark’ will be right up your street.
