Elis James – Speaking As A Mother (Phil McIntyre Management)
By Nicholas Jones | Published on Sunday 19 August 2012
Elis James gives an assured performance, quickly getting the audience onside and easily holding the room’s attention. His energetic style and clear desire to please make him a delight to watch, and it is no surprise to hear that he is already playing to a sold-out room. The only real weakness in the show is a choice of topics, which often borders on the mundane: going to a wedding, living with his girlfriend, amusing parents, and so on. However, his solid stage presence allows these parts to be forgiven by an audience which is laughing almost continuously. James’s edgeless, family-friendly material makes for a perfectly good show with which to while away an hour.
Pleasance Courtyard, 1-27 Aug (not 14), 7.00pm.
