Domestic Science – Helen Arney and Rob Wells (PBH Free Fringe)
By Susan Ford | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
This show starts well with a messy noodle-based experiment, but then it takes a slide downhill. Helen Arney and Rob Wells present a mix of comedy and sketches, but with a name like ‘Domestic Science’ I was hoping for lots of audience participation, quirky experiments and cool sharable facts. Instead I got bad impersonations and some pointless cake decorating that was neither scientific nor especially funny (‘domestic science’ in the old-school sense I suppose). The jokes are bad, the sketches embarrassing and the material just a little bit boring. Which is a horrible shame, because Arney and Wells are an adorable real couple. But, unfortunately for them, the highlight of their show was when we got to meet the special guests (one of which was a ‘QI’ elf!) and the hosts themselves left the stage.
