Cracking Yolks – Free Range Comedy (Jo Ogden / Nena Edwards / Ruth Bruce / Free Festival)
By Hilary White | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Committed to book-ending their show with a plethora of egg-cellent puns (and a few bad yolks), stand-ups Jo Ogden, Ruth Bruce and Nena Edwards all cover fairly standard topics, such as dating and jobs, but in pleasingly differing styles. First on, Ogden seems somewhat nervous, but her naturally dry delivery and well-structured set on cats and ill-advised knitting went down well. The endearingly perky Bruce doesn’t quite hit the mark with every joke, but her winning style means that it doesn’t feel like it really matters. A complete contrast to Bruce’s wide-eyed sweetness, Edwards provides fifteen minutes of deliciously filthy material that manages to make ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ even more disturbing.
