ED2012 2/5 Reviews ED2012 Comedy Reviews
California Beach Bungalow (Smile And Nod – California)
By Simon Thornton | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
I like improvised comedy a lot; it’s often exciting, inventive and fresh. So when the young, eager and smiley guys of the Smile and Nod troupe arrived on stage I was expecting to be highly entertained. Sadly, that expectation was not met. Despite their manic enthusiasm, these guys really need to do a lot more work and spend some time honing their craft. When performing longer-form improv, their material often felt over-stretched, while the lead-up to the sketches was usually very awkward, as each member would attempt to ascribe an amusing anecdote (which rarely succeeded in amusing) to whatever the audience had suggested. There were a few reasonably funny lines, but not enough to save the show.
