Bruce Hammers’ Bananapocalypse (Mat Ewins)
By Lauren Houghton | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
In this fast-paced, fun, and often puzzling sketch show, Mat Ewins is Bruce Hammers, the supposedly legendary 80s movie star from ‘Bananapocalypse’. He switches between characters frequently without much explanation, leaving the audience fighting to catch up, and tells amusing anecdotes from the old movie set. The highlights of the show are clips from the fake movie, including a hilarious prank phone call. At certain points Ewins does seems to lose focus and head off topic, such as when he brings a couple of audience members on stage for a staring contest, or takes one on a spoof date: funny, but quite pointless. Still his exuberance and enthusiasm is catching and it is a fun way to spend an hour.
