2012 – An Improv Odyssey (Cambridge Impronauts / PBH Free Fringe)
By Grace Hardy | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The Impronauts’ concept was always going to be difficult to pull off: a science fiction ”film” almost entirely based on audience suggestions. It didn’t really sound to me as though it had that much potential to amuse, and I’m sorry to say that it didn’t. The songs had a rehearsed-sounding structure and were neither tuneful nor clever, while the cast eked out but a few funny moments, mostly created by one or two particular group members, who seemed to have a little more talent. Although I understand that improvised comedy can get repetitive and they were trying to be original, I think the Impronauts need to choose a different model; for them, science fiction really wasn’t a good basis for humour.
