Ronnie Le Drew’s Brilliant Bag Show (Pleasance Theatre Trust)
By Katie Cunningham | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Ex-Hollywood puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew’s show is half educational introduction to the world of his puppets, half letting the children play with them. He lets them wander up, feed the puppets chocolate, and give them cuddles. It’s lovely, really. He’s an excellent puppeteer, and entertaining for adults too; telling stories about his time working on the set of labyrinth and the Muppets. And he’s very, very good at his job, taking on a variety of characters, voices, and mannerisms. It’s far more traditional than most Fringe puppet shows, even nostalgic in places, but, even if you do have a problem with that, the audience involvement and Le Drew himself make up for it. Small and charming, it’s just a great show.
Pleasance Courtyard, 1-25 Aug, 3.45pm.
