Nick Cope – Family Songs And Music (Nick Cope)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Nineties Britpop indie kids don’t just buy farms, sell cheese and start Oasis tribute bands when they get older; some grow up and write ditties for kiddies, as Nick Cope illustrates. The Candyskins lead singer still cuts a fine figure on the stage, looking sharp with the (silver) Weller-do, desert boots and skinny jeans, and sounding just as sharp with his cheeky banter for the yummy mummies. With silly, funny, lovely songs, it was jolly good fun (a favourite was Monkey Song), and I have to admit that the urge to join in was tempting (being alone, I resisted). It completely avoids the forced delirium of some other happy-clappy kids shows – the smiles are genuine on both sides of the stage.
