ED2012 4/5 Reviews ED2012 Children's Shows Reviews
Greek Myths For Kids (Backhand Theatre with C Theatre)
By Joanna Gill | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
This show is hypnotic. I regressed into a childlike state and wanted to be in the front row to hold the gold thread which guided Theseus out of the labyrinth having triumphantly defeated the Minotaur. All three actors are gifted with storytelling skills of the gods; they struck the perfect balance between educational and fun, while sparse props allowed their voices and faces to carry most of the stories. There was enough pantomime – “he’s behind you”, when Hades made an unwelcome appearance – to keep the kids on the edges of their seats. From the children’s perspective, the only problem seemed to be with regard to deciding which was their favourite at the end: “I liked Perseus best”, said one kid to another. “No way, Persephone was my favourite!”
