ED2012 3/5 Reviews ED2012 Children's Shows Reviews
Dr Seuss I Love You (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Katie Cunningham | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Dr Seuss isn’t quite as popular over here as he is in America, so a show based around his work might struggle to attract a crowd. That said, ‘Dr Seuss I Love You’ managed to stay accessible and open enough for most audiences, showing a bunch of kids learning to love learning through the teachings of Dr. Seuss; it’s all standard stuff, with good singing and dancing. The problem isn’t that it does anything wrong, just that it doesn’t really do anything right either. While some might think that low standards are acceptable for a children’s show, there are plenty of better productions that give children a little more credit: ones with more originality, and with more thought given to how entertaining the show will be for adults.
Church Hill Theatre, 7-11 Aug (not 9), 6.30pm.
