Captain Codless And The Legend Of Plunge Island (The Lincoln Company)
By Lisa Clarkson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
I felt as if I’d seen Captain Codless before today. This was down to the fact that the show follows the questing trope meticulously; it’s a familiar adventure, a ‘jolly romp’; the treasures, journeys, villains and perils are all there – with some subtle tinkering, however, most notably with the issue of boys and girls. Girls playing boys, lead girl (like TV’s Lutin) pretending to be a boy to win the heart of Captain Codless (like TV’s Mayor Gaston Goody), lead girl quarrelling with brother, who is also smitten with the Captain… But what makes this show exceptional was the crew. They couldn’t have been more infectiously excitable; yes, there was slightly hammy singing, and yes, chronic over-acting in parts… but I simply can’t give it any less than five stars.
C too, 2-27 Aug (not 14), 2.25pm.
