Hairy Maclary And Friends (Nonsense Room Productions)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Bringing to life Lynley Dodd’s popular picture books about the scruffy little dog from Donaldson’s Dairy, ‘Hairy Maclary and Friends’ is a fun, family-friendly way to start any day at the Fringe. There’s just the right balance of singing, dancing, stories and mass audience participation, all led by the lovely Miss Plum and affable Samuel the Butcher. It took a little while to get to used to the fact that the dogs were all human-sized, but the costuming and acting soon had me forgetting Schnitzel von Krumm et al weren’t 100% canine. With some well-thought-out details in the music and set, this is a charmingly wholesome production that parents will likely enjoy as much as their children.

Assembly George Square, 12-22 Aug (not 17), 10.30am.
