ED2012 1/5 Reviews ED2012 Cabaret Reviews

Twonkeys Kingdom (Paul Vickers / Heroes of Alternative Comedy)

By | Published on Saturday 11 August 2012

A completely unsuccessful premise results in a show that is unorthodox and unsettling, uninteresting and unenjoyable: more easily defined by what it is not than by what it actually is, due to the total lack of any real sense this production made. This perfect example of bad Fringe parades shoddy puppets to bland music, then segues into a song delivered from inside a duck’s head. Cabaret artist Paul Vickers has confidence but lacks stage presence, and his bumbling eccentricity – which could only be behind such a strange concept – often rises to sinister and uncomfortable crassness in embarrassing and overtly sexual segments. A macabre and horrifying ordeal where creepiness exceeds mere cringe – avoid.

Alternative Fringe @ The Hive, 2-26 Aug (not 7, 21, 22), 3.00pm.
