Wonder Bread (Russian Arts Theatre & Studio)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

I’m pleased to report that Danusia Trevino can sing excellently in Polish, English and Gibberish, and ‘Wonder Bread’ is packed full of songs, which is fitting for a show from someone who once dated Dee Dee Ramone. Drinking vodka, dancing and singing songs, Trevino is one of the most charismatic and likeable performers I’ve seen, and holds the audience in the palm of her hand as she smilingly tells the story of her journey from rural Poland in the 1970s to flipping burgers and dancing with Iggy Pop in New York. The six-strong audience was laughing louder than some audiences of over a hundred. Okay, the conclusion felt slightly twee, but that’s nothing next to the sheer pleasure of an hour in Trevino’s company.

Gryphon Venues at The Point Hotel, Aug 8 – 20 (not 14), 6.40pm (7.50pm), £6.00 – £8.00, fpp311.
