The Trek Electric (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Maryam Ansari | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
In this dystopian society, rowdy teenagers are confined to a totalitarian asylum, where they are persuaded to forget their pasts. Laden with drama and suspense, as well as ample moments of comic relief, ‘The Trek Electric’ proved engaging, entertaining, and at worst, hilarious. The storyline remained as intriguing as it did enigmatic; though many hints were dropped – like passing references to the government, the significance of sex and violence, and a storm which seemed to be brewing by the end – it was certainly not enough to fully explain how this dystopia came to be. But these holes were far from flaws; rather, the plot’s captivating qualities were the ones which ultimately gained the most salience, making this a splendid performance indeed.
Church Hill Theatre, 19 – 22 Aug, times vary, £5.00, fpp306.
