The School Of The Night (The Sticking Place – Festival Highlights)
By Ciara Knowles | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011
Back to school in mid-August? Yes, but only for little over an hour with a little improv show – or indeed “class”. This literary romp – the the name of the show borrowed from Shakespeare – is at times extremely entertaining. It involves a convoluted series of songs, plays and skits, the most memorable being a monologue on a Lucozade bottle within the devised Shakespearean play, ‘The Lost Enchantress’. Links between skits, however, were often tenuous and the lecturer-style interjections of the host were tedious. With a sense of humour not unlike the British ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’, this is a show with plenty of potential and, when all’s said and done, a bag of laughs.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, 4 – 18 Aug, 5.15pm (6.25pm), £9.00 – £11.00, fpp295.
