The Perils Of Love And Gravity (Christopher Brett Bailey And Michael Keane Present…)

By | Published on Sunday 28 August 2011

In a subsiding, upside down mansion, lonely and curious Misha dreams of the outside world in this twisted and twee fairytale. Against a backdrop of projected silhouettes, the story of her various doomed love affairs is told at breakneck speed by charmingly demented Rhys Lawton, the ultimate unreliable narrator who picks the plot apart with knowing subversions and silly set pieces. The fourth wall in this production seems as likely to collapse as the crumbling house the characters inhabit, but the story is never sidelined. Simple, effective staging makes a lot from very little, and with props and performers being recycled with ingenuity and great comic timing, the heroine’s imaginary world unfolds for the audience magnificently.
