Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones (Bunk Puppets And Scamp Theatre)

Blending Mr Bean’s dialogue with ingenious shadow puppets, this act – back at the Fringe after an award-winning first year – is certainly unique. Jeff Achtem constructs complex shadow puppets from junk, accompanied by his semi-wordless ramblings. The show is divided into several short skits: Frankenstein constructing his monster, a horse racing on a rotating track, and a ninja master training a member of the audience among the best. Artistically somewhere between Tim Burton and Monty Python cartoons, it is creepy, occasionally dark, hilarious, and perfectly suitable for adults or children. Even where the acts aren’t perfect, either the artistry or the comedy pulls them off. Simply put, this is a great show.
