ED2011 3/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
Spring Fever (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Hilary White | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
With marvellous misdirection in the first of the short plays that together make up ‘Spring Fever’, two innocent-looking teenagers enter in mayfly costume, only to execute a clever pun-filled routine heavy in sexual innuendo. And the audience love it. While this show seems to cash in on the incongruity and shock factor of having a young cast perform often quite mature material, it certainly results in fits of raucous laughter from viewers. Some of the skits are weaker than others, resulting in the show sagging a little in places, but at its best it’s playful and charming, displays good comic timing and impressive delivery of quick-fire lines. Not ground-breaking, but well-performed fluffy comic theatre that does what it does very well.
Church Hill Theatre, 8, 10, 11, 13 Aug, times vary, £5.00, fpp299.
