ED2011 3/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
Pulse (Baker Lane Theatre Company)

As the show opened, the immediate themes set in motion were those of adolescent friendships, hinted crushes, and a newly purchased car – at this point, I was convinced the performance came dangerously close to resembling the likes of ‘The OC’ or any other teen flick, and worse, that I was in for an insipidly long 55 minutes. But a car crash interlude and its relaying in a fragmented, non-linear manner swiftly changed that, supplying the plot with unforeseen drama and grief. Though it did become overly reminiscent of an extended ‘Think! Road Safety’ advert, and the plot itself was not too imaginative, the emotive acting, and thought provoking denouement provide reason enough to give this show a chance.
