LodeSTAR (Impossible Documentaries)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Like the rock songs it idolises, ‘LodeSTAR’ might be good on drugs but it’s dreadful sober. Our narrator lumbers between a paper-thin Howard Marks character spouting banal profundities about music, and a dreary physics professor. Confusing visual and audio effects provide an unhelpful accompaniment. He hasn’t even learnt his lines, reading instead from a sheet of paper without inflection or emotion. It’s a sign of how poor his delivery is that when he lets “Stephen Hawkins” lecture us that the quality of the experience actually goes up. Over-long, overly wordy and an intellectual wannabe, this is the stage equivalent of the “deep” conversations engaged in whilst baked off your head as a teenager, and just as worthless.

St George’s West, 5 – 18 Aug (not 10), 5.00pm (6.10pm), £7.00 – £9.00, fpp276.
