Gypsies, garden-ponies and tea, lots of tea. This is Revolving Shed’s production of ‘How To Catch A Rabbit’ as well as writer Alex Rodin’s first play. This is a thoughtful and innovative piece, particularly for a new writer, which possesses rawness and a sense of intrepidity. We see moments of genuine connection between characters, as the young actors inhabit the strange and often brutal world of these ‘urban gypsies’. There are some strong moments of physical theatre (including the use of frying-pans) but the combination of sound, movement and speech is, at times, overdone, making it difficult to understand the already quite complex ‘gypsy’ language. Arrive early to study the glossary. It’s a sure bet for anyone interested in new playwrighting.
