ED2011 5/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
Get Carter (SPProductions / James Weisz)
By Taylor Wallace | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
I have to admit I’ve never seen this film, but I don’t know how it could be much better than this stage adaptation. Somehow director Jack Holloway manages to pack all the traditional elements of a gangster film – from the sex and violence, to the hardboiled men in pinstripe suits – into a set with only a bar, some stools, and a bed. At times I almost felt like I was watching a film, only it was right in front of me, and taking advantage of all the nuances the theatre has to offer, every single cast member acted to the greatest standards I could possibly hope for or imagine. This adaptation was truly a remarkable piece of entertainment.
