ED2011 2/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
Foursome (Purple Panda Theatre)
By Eleanor Pender | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
What happens when an Irishman, a Welshman, a Scotsman and his girlfriend live in the same flat? Combined with the traditional storyline of the morning after the night before, this well-known set-up offers little to entertain. The idea is good but clichés override any potential originality. Although capable of more, it falls victim to easy stereotypes of the nagging girlfriend, the laddish boyfriend and the obnoxious best friend, and sexual connotations and boob jokes appeal for the easy laughs. That said, the occasional amusing pop reference does crop up, but unfortunately it’s not enough. Dry and predictable dialogue takes the audience into well-covered relationship territory of trust issues, and overall, this is a lack lustre performance that drags on too long.
