Caroline Mabey’s One Minute Silence (Caroline Mabey)
By Alison Treacy | Published on Tuesday 30 August 2011
The premise – a course on how to achieve the perfect one minute of silence – was thin to begin with. Audience members, myself included, were desperately and unsuccessfully trying to find some point or purpose to the bizarre and deeply flawed event; an animated talking coffee pot, with whom Caroline Mabey conversed at periods was peculiar and frankly puerile, as was the silent animated scrambled egg (seriously), which added nothing but confusion. Moreover, the use of swearwords and sexual innuendo meant that neither adult nor child could have grasped the humour – if there was any – behind this show. My one piece of praise is limited to the fact that Mabey handled walk-outs and heckles with good grace and humour.
